WS Development has been arrested for “inciting hatred” on social media, the company said in a statement.
The company said the arrest was announced following a complaint against it by a US citizen.
The developer, based in Singapore, was arrested at the office of his employer in California on Friday, the statement said.
The statement did not give details of the charges that WS Development faced, and it did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
The US Department of Justice did not comment on the arrests, but in a tweet on Monday, US Attorney for the Eastern District of New York Carmen Ortiz said the US was “very concerned” by the alleged conduct.
“It is extremely concerning that a US person would target a foreign business in the US for business, and then make disparaging comments about that business’s employees,” Ortiz said.
“These actions are not only inconsistent with US law, they are illegal under international law and threaten the very foundations of the United States and our economic security.”
The US Justice Department said it is investigating the case and has asked for any relevant information from the company.
