A new report from McKinsey & Company offers a roadmap to make your child’s career a success, including creating a strong sense of community, helping your kids find a way to make their own choices and getting involved in their own learning.
In the company’s “Organization Development Jobs Report” for 2018, McKinsey estimates that “90% of people have some sort of organization or team in their lives,” and they’re increasingly “creating their own, unique way of doing things.”

“A growing number of people are choosing to be active in their communities and have an impact on their communities through their work,” said McKinsey partner Mary Anne Johnson.
“Organizing, connecting and engaging are the keys to success in our world.
A sense of connection with your community can be the difference between getting what you need and not getting it, and this can mean being an active participant in the process of shaping the future.”
Here are some key elements to keep in mind: • Organize in ways that make your life easier and more rewarding: If you’re organizing your life around work, this may be a good time to include the things you do for work into your day, as well as things you spend your free time doing, such as visiting friends and family, going to church, taking walks, reading, watching television, and volunteering.
Organizing your life in ways you can work on and accomplish, such that it’s easy for you to accomplish your goals, helps to build the kind of connection you need for success.
• Work from home: A big part of your job is to keep your kids in school, and it can be hard to find time to spend with them if you’re working remotely.
“Some people find it easier to work from home,” Johnson said.
“But the truth is that you can do more if you have a partner who’s able to work with you to manage the schedules of both your children and the family.”
The best part?
You don’t have to live in the same place to help each other grow.
If you can find a partner in your own home, this will help to make it easier for you and your kids to work together.
For example, Johnson said that she and her husband would get together and discuss the work their kids could do together, so that they could work on different projects together.
“I would make sure I would have a plan and a calendar to get together,” Johnson says.
You’ll also want to keep a plan in mind, too.
This may be something you have to put in place and have in place right away.
“If it’s too hard to work on a project together, you’ll find yourself doing more and more work,” Johnson added.
When working together, be flexible.
This is especially true when you’re looking for an internship or job.
“When you have an opportunity to collaborate with someone who is a great partner and also has a great work ethic, you can often do the same thing,” Johnson explains.
“And you may be able to get more done together.”
