A man was arrested on suspicion of hacking a company in order to steal intellectual property and profits.
Marta Espinosa-Perez, 30, was arrested Tuesday by the Los Angeles Police Department after he allegedly stole $1.8 million from a startup called Mindscape, according to police.
He also allegedly stole the company’s confidential business information, according the Los Vegas Review-Journal.
Espinos’ arrest comes after a string of security breaches in recent years at some of the largest tech companies in the world.
In May, a hacker called Blackhat breached the company and stole data about 500 million people.
In June, another hacker called Lizard Squad stole data from a major financial institution and then used it to target banks and finance firms.
Last week, the FBI arrested a hacker who was behind a massive data breach that compromised more than 100 million bank accounts.
In September, Blackhat reported it had hacked into more than 200 companies including Microsoft and Target.
